Going to become a nurse. I’m finishing up the rest of the classes need to apply for the program. I took Anatomy & Physiology and Introduction to Nutrition. I got a 4.0 in both classes and striving to do the same in the final 2 classes that I’m taking. I also made the Dean’s List. I really feel so proud of myself. Although I did okay in college (Ahem!) 13 years ago, it really makes me feel good that I still got it. I think it has also put an importance on education that my daughter sees.

We had a fabulous 4th of July! We saw a private fireworks show that our friends put on along with a great party. It was so nice not having to fight crowds over the holiday. I posted the video on Facebook. I didn’t realize that his fireworks were going to be that long (20 minutes) so the video is long. To long to put on blogger. Here’s a few pics.

I also am growing my garden this year. Sorry no pics because I really wasn’t planning on doing this blog. I started off real good and then my garden took a crapper on me. I couldn’t figure out what was going on. I went back there just the other day to pull a few more weeds. This time I pulled the weeds after I had watered the garden and let it sit (easier to pull weeds in HOT weather). Well, I solved the problem. The amount of water I was giving it wasn’t adequate enough for this hot weather. I think it was drying up before it ever reached the root of the plants. I flooded the garden and we had some heavy rain that day and the plants perked up. I just hope that I will still get some good veggies. Once thing that is coming is a huge pumpkin. It trails out of my garden into my neighbors (about 15 feet long and going). She said that was fine. She’s pretty cool as opposed to the pecker heads that live on the other side. Hopefully I will have a nice pumpkin to show you all.

Oh my, I forgot the biggest news of all. 8 years ago when I was pregnant with Audrey my parents moved to Iowa. I got to see them about once a year. I really missed having them around and them getting to know their grandkids. Well suddenly, they got the news in June that they were moving back. YEAH! I know have my parents back here by me. My mom already claimed she was doing the holidays which I am super excited about. I missed holidays with my family. Since they are back, we planned a trip up north for some R&R. They way we always did it and I get to meet my 2nd cousins kids for the first time. I think the oldest is 5 and my cousin Jenni’s boy and Nathan are only 4 days apart. They should have a blast!

We also have 2 new additions to our family. Meet Big Red & Blackjack!

I think you can figure out who’s who!

Here’s some wild clouds we had after a rain storm. I’d be more surprise if anyone reads this. Yes! It has been a long time. I really admire those that can make such a commitment to blogging. I looked back and I’ve been silent since October. I must think of all the stuff that has gone on.

For the most part we were enjoying holidays and birthdays. The kids dressed up for Halloween and got lots of treats. We enjoyed the fall colors and waited for Turkey day! I just love the smell of a Thanksgiving feast. I prepared for Christmas! I like to get the shopping done early and since I have the kids birthdays right around the corner, I get all that done too! On the big day, Santa almost didn’t arrive since a little girl wouldn’t stay in bed. Too much excitement! Don’t worry, he did make it!

We have also been lucky to not have too much sickness. The year before it was pretty bad. Audrey has enjoyed school and planning sleepovers. It seems every week she wants someone to sleepover. Nate loves having Audrey’s friends over too and often ask if he can go play with them. I hope with spring coming we can get some of his friends over.

January came with 3 birthday’s! First Nate’s then Matt’s and finally Audrey’s. I survived them all by keeping it low key. Nate turned 3 and therefore graduated from Early One’s speech program. This bumped us into our school district and started him in preschool. A lot sooner than I thought. I figured I ‘d send him to 4 year old preschool so I would have had another 1 1/2 years. But I realize that this was the right thing to do. He has progressed so much in his speech and has been wonderful for his confidence. He just started riding the bus last week. I’m proud of him (but it broke my heart a little)! He has also made friends with a neighbor boy in his class. I’m sad that his friend will be moving on to kindergarten next year. Audrey turned 7 (more like 13) and has improved a lot this year in 1st grade. I see growth more this year then last. She is excelling in math and reading, although she likes the reading more. I hope she is taking after me!

Talking about me, yes me! I started back to school in January. Even though I have taken these classes they were too old to qualify for the nursing program. I’m taking Human anatomy and physiology (A&P) this semester and will be taking microbiology in the fall and then applying for the program. The program is competitive but I’m hoping that good grades and previous medical background will bump me to the top of the list. Since the majority of people receive C’s or worse in A&P, I’m hoping that a 4.0 in the class will draw their attention to accept me! I have realized since going back how much I love to learn. I feel like I need to be a professional student. Hmm, how do you get paid for taking classes. Guess I need a job to pay for that.

March brought news of Nate needing another surgery. This time to have his adenoids taken out. Shouldn’t be too bad since they are not doing the tonsils along with it. I was frustrated that his surgery that was to be this week had to be rescheduled. Threw a wrench in my plans along with Nate’s daycare center closing. Makes more work for mom. It lead me to reschedule the surgery right before Easter when I would have the most free time to handle him. I was informed that he would only need 2 days of recovery. I’ve shied away from blogger. I do feel less stress to keep up with it. I’ve been enjoying being a mom. Audrey, as some may know, is in First Grade and way back in September she had her first day. I managed to get a couple of cute pics. She had a rough go, not wanting to be away from mom. But she managed to overcome her fears and is doing a lot better.

Soon after school started we went to Heritage Day at the local township. After blogging for a year, I’m really burnt out. The excitement of doing something new has worn off. I have been thinking about my family lately. There has been a lot going on…

We made a decision to sell our car and am a proud owner of a mini van. Although I said I would never own one, I am liking it so far. Audrey is ecstatic about it. My SUV had limited seating and was not accessible for Nate.

I also have made the decision to go back to school. It’s scary to think about going back, especially since I’ve already done it and said I would never go back. But things happen in life and your path leads you in another direction. A direction you thought wouldn’t happen. Hopefully, in 2 years I will be a nurse. After all, I practically feel like one after taking care of my kids. But this will give me something to do when the kids are in school (after Nate is anyway!).

I also have been thinking about my uncle. I ask that you all keep him in your prayers. He has been fighting stage 4 prostate cancer. He has had several different radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Since things have been so advance, the treatments haven’t been working. He was recently in the hospital for blood transfusions and is starting on a path of new experimental treatments. My heart breaks because he is only 60 and a first time grandfather last year. His father (my paternal grandfather) also suffered from cancer. I thank the Lord that my dad is still in good health. This has been a scary time for our family.

After Nate, I really took a look into the genetics of family (or at least thought about it a lot). Here I am 5’7” and my husband is 6’5”, we have two children. Audrey is 6 1/2 at is measuring 4’2”. The average for her age is 3’4”. This puts her into the average size of a 10 year old. Love to see what the age of her bones are. The doctor told us that she will be reaching 6 foot. Nathan, on the other-hand is a different story. Because of his dwarfism, he will most likely be in a 4 foot range. He is measuring 31 inches so far. Since he’s closest to a 3 year olds age, their average is 33 inches. So, he is still pretty close, but when he is next to someone his age, he is definitely looks smaller. I would love for someone to do a genetics study on my family just to see how these things happen, what you get from whom.

On the brighter side, Audrey starts school on Sept. 7th! I’m so excited and so is she. She is in the 1st grade now. Her teacher, Mrs. Madigan, is so nice and I felt a good connection with her teacher. On top of that all her friends (most of them) from her old class are in hers. She also has some of the friends from her Daisy group. I’m so glad, it makes going back a lot easier. Since there are 4 different 1st grades, she may have ended up with no one. Obviously, the teachers pay attention to this and when they pick students for their class they work hard to keep friendships together. I hope to get some pictures up from the first day

Also, Nate is going back to speech therapy this week. He has been making good progress. He has been saying new words and putting together two word phrases. He’s still shy around new people and doesn’t talk. Most of the words he makes substitute for the real thing so only I know what he is referring to. I was super proud of him the other day saying “batteries,” it was really clear and it is a 3 syllable word. Now some pictures!♥

On FB I mentioned the shoe debacle. Nate loved his pair of shoes so much, no new shoe compared. I finally found this shoes online but they didn’t have the same color. But it was a success. Never knew boys would be so picky about shoes. Stubborn (wonder where he gets it from?) Also, this is his new way to lounge with the dog!

My parents with the kids this summer! I captured the action. This year I slacked off some and it shows. I got my garden in late and then hot weather hit. It took a toll on my little seedlings and stunted their growth. My yellow bell peppers are puny. I’m waiting on cukes and tomatoes and the other broccoli. I’m happy I got something.

Here’s Audrey with her friend Serenity. They had a sleepover that went really well. I swear these two are twins separated at birth. I’m really bummed that they won’t be going to the same elementary school together. Means I will have to schedule more play dates!

We did get outside for some pool action before rain came. My mom raves about the store which is at least 40 min from my house. Me not so impressed. The kids found these shopping carts, which I have heard are quite the rave. I did find a delicious chocolate bar! But not worth a 40 min drive.

So Friday I needed to hit Sam’s Club. The only place I buy diapers. Once again it’s after lunch but my lil’ man was worn out from the previous shopping day. He actually fell asleep while sitting in the cart. I pulled out the changing pad and a spare set of clothes to make a bed. I guess it was good enough. He got about a 30 minute nap in the cart!

Cheesy Nate

Cheesy Audrey

Nate finally had a play date with our neighbor. Onward!

Tuesday

We decided to sleep in this morning. All the hustle and bustle from the conference and the heat really got to us. After getting ourselves ready we headed for a short walk over to the Country Music Hall of Fame. It was a nice museum and took me back to being a kid. I remember many times being dragged to museums to learn the history of something. Nate enjoyed the freedom to run around and Audrey enjoyed the dresses. She especially loved the Taylor Swift dress.

Although I don’t know everything about country music, I learned a lot and respect those that paved the way for the music I listen to now.

View Full Album

After that we were off to lunch at Jack’s BBQ! The most talked about BBQ joint down there. It was really good but wish it was a sit down and order as opposed to a walk-up-and-order. We have a BBQ joint in downtown Detroit called Slow’s BBQ and there you sit down and order. After lunch we strolled back to the hotel and was lucky to bump into Liz and her 3 year old daughter Ashley. At this point I realize we should have gone home but I still had the banquet on Thursday and planned on leaving on Friday morning. By this time we are leaving on Starbucks for breakfast, just give me coffee. Today we headed out to the Nashville Science Museum. I know that it isn’t too far from the hotel but I accidently put the wrong address into the GPS and end up at some worn downed warehouse. Oops! Re-enter address and we are there. I didn’t tell Audrey we were going here and she kept trying to guess what the building was. I guess I choose a good place to go because Audrey and Matt disappeared. I was left with Nate to venture on our own. Some things he found exciting and others not so much. There was a whole area dedicated to the human body and healthcare. I tried to get Nate to put on this little white doctor lab coat but because I asked that wasn’t going to happen. Some day I will get those cute picture, right? In the center of the museum they have a play structure that you can go higher and higher up. Never let you 2 year old lead the way. I’m trying to be all encouraging, climbing through tight spot till we are at the top. You have 2 choices: you can go down the stairs that everyone is coming up or you have a twisty slide to go down. Guess who wouldn’t go down the slide and I don’t like heights, especially with a 2 year old who is prone to falling. I was the “fun police”, as Matt calls me, and carried Nate down the stairs with a diaper bag/purse in a steep stairway that’s about the width of me. Geez, what we do for our kids!

View Full Album

Thursday

Starbucks again in the morning! The food was okay and the prices on drinks were ridiculous! But we had fun at our table. We had a family crash our table, which split another family up. The table crashes refused to go to their assigned table because it was not place in the correct spot according to the diagram from sign-up. A mom and her younger daughter sat at another table which left 3 seats for her other daughters at our table. The one daughter was quite pissed and made sure that everyone knew it. I actually had someone come to me with the assignment book and asked if our names were on that table list. I proudly pointed to our names. But maybe it was for the best that those girls mother wasn’t at the table. They didn’t hold back and they had me laughing so hard I was crying. Mainly it was about the blind lesbian keynote speaking and some of the things she said. The one thing I remember is that LP’s are very sexual people (her words, not mine). Made me wonder who her partner was. Anyway, it was a nice night and the husband and I got a dinner without the kids.

Friday

Time to head home. We were up bright and early. Matt checked out at 6am and we were on the road at 8. It was a 1 1/2 hour drive to Mammoth Cave National Park. It was a pretty drive back to the visitor center. I didn’t realize how many people would be there and that they have different tours at different times. Should of done my research. I was expecting a Niagara Falls where you just walk up and look. We did however run into a couple families with LP’s. How cool is that. The cave is absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to go back and do a bigger tour. It was very humid that day and made it hard to hike. I was hot and sweaty but when I got to the cave opening it was like nature’s air conditioning. Underneath the temperature drops to around 68 degrees. You can see steam rising up out of the opening. After we got up the lenses on my camera and glasses fogged up. One thing I am happy for is that Nate only weighs 24 lbs. You are not allowed to bring anything down into the cave except a camera, jacket and a bottle of water. After taking pictures my new goal is a new camera. Something that might be able to get better pictures down there.

View Full Album

Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-1985720288440614392010-07-13T15:27:00.002-04:002010-07-22T11:28:11.422-04:00Nashville~Part I
Howdy you'll! Nate loved the airport and getting to see the planes. But he especially loved the luggage cars. We had some time to wait for our plane and enjoyed a little shopping too! I was so nervous about how the kids would do on the flight that I forgot how I don’t like to fly. Or maybe I just realized that. During the take-off I was doing my deep breathing so I wouldn't pass out. Audrey noticed and thought that I looked funny. I probably did! But it didn’t make it any better when she smiled and said, “It feels like we’re falling, mom!” From the airport we hopped a shuttle to the hotel and started to find a place for lunch. I hate being someplace and not knowing where to find food. Nate was on a steady diet of McDonald’s Sausage McMuffin, M&M's and Doritos's. He doesn't eat very well when he is in a new environment. After Matt arrived, I had us checked into the hotel. We threw everything in our room and headed out to the mall and stopped for dinner.

View Full Album

SATURDAY

In the morning we headed out early to take the kids to the zoo. It was Audrey's choice for a non-LPA event. I thought that it was an important thing to do since this was our family vacation too. Not fair to make it all about him. We had a great time but could have done without the humidity. We saw Giraffes, Elephants, Lorikeets, Meer Kats, Tigers, Lynxes, Clouded Leopards, Alligators as well as amphibians, reptiles, fish and spiders. We even saw bats which Nate screamed at and started to cry. He didn't like that they flew. Guess it's better when animals don't move! We played on their big play scape and hit the gift shop before a little sprinkle of rain showed up. Happy to get to the air conditioned car, we were hot and sweaty. Since Nate wasn't eating to well, we swung through McDonald's for some chicken nuggets (which he ate one) and headed back to the hotel. Time to hang around and bump into some familiar faces. We finally found Kim and Preston! I also ran into Katie and Bill from The Little Chocolatiers. I talked with them for awhile. Later we left for dinner and ste at Rippy’s BBQ on Broadway. Nate finally ate a PB&J sandwich!

SUNDAY

Sunday came fast. Happy 4th of July!! We ate some breakfast and then tried to spot some friends. Yeah, finally some Facebook and blogging friends were found. We had a quiet morning at the hotel and Nate was getting sleepy. Matt headed down to the 4th of July festivities at the waterfront with Audrey. I took Nate to Panera Bread for another PB&J and a yogurt smoothie! After we went for a walk and found Walgreen's which was closed. Thank God there was a Dollar General across the street and I shopped there. Got a few munchies for the room. On the way back to the hotel Nate fell asleep and I took him straight to the hotel room for his nap. By the time he woke up it was a race to get him ready and head out for dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory with our POLP's. I wasn't expecting to wait 30 minutes for an elevator and by the time we walked over to the restaurant it was already 5:30. We were to be there at 5:00. There were 9 more of us left to be seated and they wouldn't let us till 6. That really sucked because everyone else was in the first seating and all the kids got to hang out with each other. They were ready to head down to the fireworks while we were eating our dinner. We thought about going but after we got outside and saw the massive crowd I knew Nate wouldn't do well. I was having a hard time getting the stroller through the crowd. I gave up and headed back to the hotel. Plus, I forgot ear plugs and that wouldn’t have gone very well. I figured we watch them on TV, after all Detroit's fireworks are televised. I watched NY City's beautiful fireworks on TV instead because they don't televise Nashville's. Big bummer!

MONDAY

Today was a busy day! We started by driving out to the Loveless Cafe for breakfast. It was really good and the homemade preserves with biscuits were to die for. Then we rushed back to make it for Nate's first doctors appointment (appt). First appt was with Dr Yahner a nutritionist. I get concerned over my kids eating habits but Nate is normal. I did learn that his portion size needs to be really small. Boy can that kid pack it away some times. Next appt was with Dr. Jallo a neurologist. I had him examine Nate and then look at his MRI. All good news and it is very unlikely that Nate would need decompression surgery! So we are done with neurologist. We did the free hearing screening in which they said Nate didn't pass on his left ear. We see our ENT in August and will talk about it then. After some lunch Nate had his last appt with Dr. McKenzie an orthopedist. He checked him head to toe and after answering some concern we were giving a clean bill of health. So unless anything of major concern comes up the next National will be more social. Trying to fill in the blanks, my memory has escaped me. I can’t remember what happened after Nate’s last appt. He probably napped and then we headed someplace for dinner.
Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-62509777691705093812010-06-26T08:40:00.007-04:002010-06-26T09:05:00.654-04:00Ketchup!!
I can’t believe that so much time has gotten away from me. In a week the family leaves for Nashville, TN. By that time I will have so much to blog about as if I don’t already. It’s been two months since I’ve posted anything. Maybe some will understand how much it takes to stay on top of blogging, Facebook, e-mails, general surfing and research. I was starting to have a deep and meaningful relationship with my computer. I missed the interaction with my family and seeing Nate cry because I pulled out the laptop finally did me in. I stepped back from blogging and have drastically cut back my Facebook. Really, it was the Facebook that fueled the obsession.

I left off some place back in May. I can hardly remember what I did the day before and now I have to think back that far? I’ll just hit the highlights. I talked about Nate starting Speech Therapy. He went a total of 6 times before the end of the year (school year). He is not much for the school scene and barely wants to interact but that’s okay. Nate likes to hang back and observe and he definitely absorbs everything in. He has really increased his vocabulary. He still needs help in pronunciation which will come in time.

Audrey has finished Kindergarten and graduated to the 1st Grade. It was bittersweet. I’m so proud of her but there is the realization that she is growing up and with that more white hairs have popped up on my head. I once again have planted a garden this year. I was a week behind in getting everything planted and had to replant some plants that died. This year I planted a little less and some different things. I have tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow bell peppers, onions, red cabbage, broccoli, cilantro and my herbs; oregano, thyme and chives. Usually I’m super-psyched about gardening but the bug isn’t hitting me. Maybe I’m just thinking about my vacation.

So you may be wondering what I have been doing in all my non-computer time. Well, I joined a gym! I need to work out and lose all the pregnancy weight. I need to be healthy for my family and hopefully not be sick anymore. I get to put Nate (Audrey too) in childcare which is good for him in socializing and increasing his vocabulary. I was going on a pretty regular basis until my kids decided to be sick. Nate came down with a sinus infection in late April which we treated. In about 3 weeks he came down with his second sinus infection which again needed antibiotics. The second was the worst because it spread to his eyes. He woke up in the morning with his eyes glued shut. I had enough, I requested to see and allergist. Of all the times he has gotten sick, it must be due to him having allergies. This week we found out that he is allergic to dogs and we have one! Short from getting rid of the dog, we can treat him with antihistamines and use an air purifier. I have been in super cleaning mode to eliminate as much dog hair as possible. Or should I say impossible. I won’t be sorry when his times up, I just have to wait another 10 years or so. I was also told that when you have allergies you are more susceptible to colds and other things. The picture is more clear now. On a side note at the doctor’s office today was a very friendly stray cat that Audrey tried to take home. Really, that darn thing actually jumped in my car as I opened the door. Why was I at the doctor’s today? Seven days till Nashville and Audrey got Strep Throat. This has been a bad year of ailments. I’ve paid my dues, my doctors are rich!!

We also went to a small farm to see some animals. I happen to run into an old college friend and her 3 year old son. We got together for the kids to play and for us to catch up. It was so nice. I hope that we have more time to get together.

I’ll end it here with more things to come.

Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-56214528176647136882010-05-08T12:31:00.002-04:002010-07-22T11:28:58.153-04:00District 5 Spring Regional
Maybe it’s time to update the blog! Once again I start to write and get sidetracked and then never get back to it.

Nate and I attended our first regional on April 17th. We had a good time getting to meet new people. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t more younger kids for Nate there. I bumped into a mom that I haven’t seen in a year. She has a beautiful 3 year old daughter with Achondroplasia. We talked for a little bit. I realized that I didn’t push myself to get to know more people. I wish I was the social butterfly that my daughter is. Things are pretty laid back at a regional. I attended a parent’s meeting, general meeting and then traveled to the site for the DAAA games. This was our first time checking things out there. Nate really enjoyed watching the kids play soccer. Maybe something he would be interested in. He’ll reach the age requirement by the National in Dallas, TX.

Nate has also started speech therapy. At first, I thought he was doing real well. He was saying some new words and I figure that “explosion of language” was going to come. After several attempts to get him to use words instead of screaming he would eventually just laugh at me. He amazingly knows what everything is but just can’t get those words to come out. Since a few meetings, he is trying more and becoming easier to understand. Our next meeting we are going to meet another LP! I think I may know who it is (they can’t tell us.)

Audrey has another month or so of school left. I’m excited to get the break but it only means that summer is around the corner. We have packed a lot into our summer this year. Audrey has 2 camps and we have Nashville. Around all that, I have my mom coming in from Iowa and we still have to find time for our trip to Northern Michigan. Most of this except for Nashville will be rudely interrupted due to me having to be in court. I’m an eyewitness and am therefore required to appear. It would be so much easier if the a**hole would just plead guilty (it knows it is guilty and they have evidence) and waive it’s right to a trial. But it wants everyone else to suffer and be miserable along with it while wasting the taxpayers money. I went from being a victim to finding it my duty to make sure it isn’t on the streets anymore.

Audrey also had a field trip to a farm this week. She had a great time. I wish I could of gone but didn’t have a babysitter for Nate. She enjoyed getting to hold a baby pig! I’m just glad she didn’t ask for one! She saw cows, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, ducks, chicks, kittens, rabbits and a dog. They also had a chance to make butter. I’m awaiting photos from a friend. maybe I can post them later. Here’s a couple pictures of Nate and one of my pink dogwood tree.

Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-8146844207140622322010-04-08T17:52:00.003-04:002010-04-08T17:57:42.919-04:00Audrey’s Girl Scout Swaps
Audrey was required to make 100 items to swap. They had to be able to pin them on. Mom’s creative idea turned out to be hard work and for them to come out decent, I had to do it. Felt bad about this, but I am a perfectionist. Can’t put out a crappy product. We made daisy pins.

The girls had a good time. Audrey understood April Fool’s day this year and enjoyed telling me I had spiders in my hair!!

We had another craze of sickness hit the house. Audrey had a sinus and double ear infection and was put on antibiotics. Two days after that Nate got sick and after 4 days of not getting better took him to the doctors. Our regular doctor was out so we had another in the practice. He said Nate had a cold (not what Audrey had) but his ears looked a little red. For the most part the tubes in his ears have been working well. So Nate was put on Augmenten. He doesn’t favor well on this stuff. He refused to take it and raspberried back into my face. What I did get down caused diaper rash and mild diarrhea. After a couple days I called the doctors and the nurse told me to mix with yogurt. Finally, I was getting it down him. Two days after that, at night Nate broke out in a rash on his arms. It looked like a bad sunburn and hives showed up on his back and legs. I stopped the antibiotic and called the doctors office the next morning. Although not 100% positive, the doctor determine a mild allergic reaction to the antibiotics. We now have to stay away from Penicillin. To top that off, Audrey came down with gastroenteritis which she gave to her dad and Nate. For Nate it hit right around Easter. He already had diarrhea from the antibiotics and now this. Poor kid lost 2 pounds.

Easter morning and once again it was like Christmas. Audrey was up early checking everything out and wanting us to get up too. Not going to happen. But once we were up, I snatched the camera and the kids dug through their baskets. Next was the egg hunt. The Easter bunny took the easier route and hid candy filled plastic Easter eggs. Sorry, no dying eggs this year. No one likes hard-boiled eggs and I didn’t want the mess or fuss after everyone being sick again!

Later we went over to Matt’s parents for dinner and the kids found what the Easter bunny left them there.

Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-50914323060939300012010-04-06T17:06:00.003-04:002010-04-06T17:10:47.396-04:00A Little Birthday Fun!
After the baby shower on Sunday, the countdown began. Friday was to be the big day with a small birthday celebration happening on Thursday. I’m now another year older. I felt it this year, my sinuses were in full swing. I was stuffed up and my nose was dripping at the same time. I was tired from not sleeping well. You know you can’t breath when you lie down. But I made the most of the day. I went shopping and then relaxed with my family that evening. MY CAKE!!

Friday came and I was excited to get Audrey off to school. I must say that this is the last time I plan anything big. Pretty much just going to swing things from the hip. Kids really are unpredictable. With Audrey off at school, I could attended to my Facebook “job” and then finish my house chores. That should get accomplished by the the time I picked Audrey up from school. But that is not the way this story goes. I got a call around 9:30 am to come pick Audrey up from school because she vomited. Seems she was the second to show the teacher their breakfast. Since Matt was off he picked her up and brought her home. We figured that she really wasn’t sick since she is a “sympathetic puker.” She looked fine and I let her lie on the couch and watch cartoons. She complained that her stomach hurt a little. I figure she just wanted me to “mother” her. Around 2 pm we decided to tell her the news since we thought she would snap out of her funk. She was instantly cured. The big news being: WE’RE GOING TO SEE TAYLOR SWIFT IN CONCERT! She didn’t quite get what a concert was and after explaining thought it was cool but not the jumping up and down with excitement like I thought.

Matt got us a limo to take and we started our night with dinner. She did well until she headed for the bathroom. Seems this was the start to a very nasty stomach bug. She had an accident which led us to Target. Oh, yeah! Target in a limo is fun. really got some heads turning. After a quick change we were off to the concert. The place was packed and the shirt lines were really, really long. After 5 min in line Audrey had to use the bathroom and we quickly jogged off to one. Of course we had to make cutsies because she couldn’t hold it. We later join another t-shirt line where after 5 min she announces “bathroom again.” I told her I would buy a shirt online. I hate lines and have no patience for them. We get our seats and await the opening act: Kelly Pickler. She was former American Idol who now has an album and sounded pretty good. After she was finished I said we would try for a shirt again. I looked hard for the shortest line and found one with only a 10 min wait. Next was to get to our seats for Taylor. I was so excited but Audrey wasn’t looking that well.

5 min till Taylor was to come on my daughter leans over and out comes dinner. Really, REALLY? Is this happening right now? The family next to us was kind enough to get an attendant to call for housekeeping as I apologized to everyone for this gross happening. They asked if we wanted to go to medical and I figured it was a good time to get out of there. Less people around to clean up and it would get all eyes off of us. It turned out to be a good choice. The way to medical was to go back stage. We walked down to the floor (because we were only 4 rows off the floor!!) and back behind the black curtains. My eyes were scanning everything and there she was. Taylor was heading up the ramp to the stage. How exciting! Audrey was seen at medical, declared she had gastroenteritis. She sipped some Sprite as I heard the concert start. After a few minutes she said she felt better and wanted to go back to the concert. We returned and watched for about 30 min until Audrey turned to me crying. She didn’t feel good and wanted to go home to bed. It was a hard decision but we left. I was mad but didn’t know who to be mad at. Everything was out of our control.

The truth being, I have a concert curse. This is my third concert in a row ( I don’t go to many) that something has happened. I think it was in 2002 I went to see Janet Jackson after the concert (with plenty of witness and no alcohol in my system) I feel down a flight of stairs. My hand stopped my forehead from slamming the concrete ground. Otherwise it would have been a trip to the ER. 2003 I saw Tim McGraw in concert. The only concert I fell asleep in because I was so sick with a head cold and a sinus infection the medication knocked me out. Matt decided to leave early to take my miserable self home. And 2010 Taylor Swift concert. Another one for the memory book!
Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-43110116303170307112010-03-24T14:42:00.001-04:002010-03-24T14:42:39.770-04:00Just another week with pictures!!
Time does fly by, especially when you don’t have a computer. It took 3 weeks but our computer came back to us. It’s working great, faster then ever! I hope I don’t have to deal with this again for a long, long time.

Amidst all the chaos, my blog is officially one years old. It’s amazing how that time goes by. I started my blog in hopes to keep everyone (mostly my family) up to date on the things we were doing and how Nate was progressing. I never knew that I would find a new family in all the wonderful bloggers out there. I look forward to meeting some of you this summer in Nashville.

We also had parent/teacher conferences at Audrey’s school. This time around she got to show us all she was learning. It was wonderful to see her come so far. She sat down and read us a book. She is so proud of being able to read. She loves school. Her writing is also improving. Audrey gets so excited that she tends to work to fast. I think she is afraid of not having enough time to do everything. We are working with her to slow down. Quality over quantity! The teacher did reveal that Audrey is a “mother hen,” meaning she is a tattle-tail in order to keep everyone in line. That is also something we need to work on. Although she is showing “leadership skills,” it needs to be done in a more productive way.

Over the weekend I attended my friends baby shower. Aleksander J was born on 3/3/10 seven weeks early due to preclamsia. He did very well, never had to be put on oxygen and came home 2 weeks later. Because of all that happening she was 45 minutes late to the shower. I was happy when she came. I’ll have to remember to eat a little something before hand. I was starving since it had been 7 hours since breakfast. Now I just wait until the baby can have visitors.

Once again, the kids are sick. Audrey started it with a sinus and double ear infection. After 5 days of cold symptoms with Nate not getting better, I took him to the doctor. Nate’s ears were heading toward being infected again and he was put on antibiotics. Somewhere he must have gotten the idea that running and hiding from mom would ensure no medicine. Wrong! Even if I catch up to him, he thinks it is funny to raspberry them to my face. Not funny! Nate cries then laughs. I only have to do this twice a day for 10 days!

Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-34622827629776304992010-03-11T09:35:00.004-05:002010-03-11T10:28:22.878-05:00This was suppose to be a brief update!I first have to start off with my frustration with computers. With our computer dead, they had to replace the motherboard and the hard drives. Because I didn't back things up, I lost everything on my computer. I had to order recovery discs and was to have Best Buy install them on Monday. I should be back in business except for the fact that there is an issue with the new motherboard that they installed and has to go back to the service warehouse. I wish they would just buy me a new computer and be done with it. I hope that once it's home i don't get any problems but I'm leery.

Other then that things have been going good. Spring sort of showed up, at least for a week. There has been 60 degree weather and sunshine. It's been nice to get out of the house and take some walks. I wish the scenery was better. Lots of construction. I have to dodge dirt, mud, broken sidewalks, huge holes and cars! Yes, cars because without sidewalks we are forced into the streets. I've been able to crack a window for some fresh air in the house. That has been so nice.

Nathan and Audrey had their yearly check-up at the doctors. I love my pediatrician. She comes in and sits down and talks to us about everything. This past time was such a good conversation and I realized how similar our lives are. She has a daughter that's a year or two older than Audrey and goes through the same things with her daughter. Audrey is not your typical 6 year old. She's a foot taller than kids her age and probably 30 pounds heavier. The doctor told me at this rate of growth she will be 6 foot tall. Nathan had a good check-up also. Plotted on the growth charts for Achons he is right at the mean. At 2 years his
Height: 29 inches
Weight: 23 lbs. 10 oz.
Head : 21 1/4.
His head size did increase this time. I was hoping for it to stay steady but it's still in the range. We are now working to adjust his wardrobe. Since Nate can still wear smaller sizes (Shirt 12-18 month and pants 9-12 month), I need to make sure that he looks like a 2 year old and not a baby. I have been foregoing the one piece outfits. I really feel that overalls need to be limited because it may make him look to babyish. I still get the comments from everyone that he's a cute baby. I hope that "baby" will be heard less and less but I don't know. He definitely doesn't want to be carried around anymore and persists on walking now. Hard for me to adjust because I'm such a fast moving person. Easier to scoop him up and go go go! But I know the importance of him walking and have not worry if I'm running late. Nate is doing well with steps too. He is more aware of them and waits for help if he needs it. At our house we have 2 steps down and am considering putting in a railing. I really don't want one but I have to make sure that he is independent as possible. In the near future I will be installing a lower stair rail for him, getting an adaption for light switches and converting one of the lower cabinets in the kitchen to his. The next big task is potty training. He is already coming to tell me that he made a "poo-poo" in his diaper and likes to help wipe when he pees. He even tried an assist on his mom which I politely declined.

Nate loves to help around the house. He opens and closes all kinds of doors. He insists on me lifting him up to open the door to let the dog in. OMG as I'm typing he's trying to plunge the toilet! LOL!! He likes to help with the laundry. I ball up the socks and open the drawer. He stands on the bed and throws them in. He loves to clean and organize. I hope this stays with him through life.

Audrey has been doing well in school. She has progressed really quickly with reading. She doesn't need too much help from me anymore. She is also becoming quite and artist. If see can sit still and focus long enough she does amazing art work. Hopefully I can showcase one of her drawings when I get my computer back. Audrey also loves the water. She has been swimming since she was 6 months old and is learning the different strokes at age 6. I'm signing her up for classes next month to get some more instruction. At the moment she swims twice a week at the fitness center her grandma goes to. I can't wait for spring and then summer. Four months till Nationals. I can't wait to meet everyone and see the kids all together. I'm so excited for Nate to meet and play with LP's his age and size.

I also had my first run in with someone who recognized Nate as a dwarf. I was picking up pizza one night when a lady asked how old Nate was (I do get the age question a lot now). I responded with his age and then she asked if he was a dwarf. I responded yes. She explained that she knew "Lexi" a 5th grader at her daughters school. I know OF Lexi but haven't formally met and from what I heard the family is not involved with LPA. I remember once seeing Lexi and her family at my work some 5 years ago (I had thought she looked little) but knew nothing about them. About 2 years ago I was at her school and also saw her and how happy and full of energy she was. The irony being that I was pregnant with Nate and had no idea that he was a dwarf. I guess it was a "soft" opening to what God had in store for me. Since then I have met several LP's and their families but still feel that awkwardness of belonging. I sometimes don't know what to talk about. I don't want to be nosey and am always afraid that I'm going to offend someone. So I'm quiet and I hang back. I'm really hoping that I can break out of that shell. Am I rambling? I think I'll end the post here. Happy Spring Everyone!!Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-40362864608822820002010-03-01T17:44:00.005-05:002010-03-01T18:23:51.325-05:00Audrey's BirthdayWe finally had the wind-down and it ended with Audrey's birthday party. In all she had 9 kids come so it was a great turn out. I was disappointed that only 3 girls from her class came. We celebrated at a bounce house. The kids got to get their bottled up energy out and enjoy some pizza and cake. It was fun watching them bounce and then scamble when it was time to do the pinata. Audrey got a lot of great stuff from her friends and should be all set with Littlest Pet Shop for awhile. I even got Nate into one of the jumpers (he actually did it on his own) and enjoyed it so much I had to get Audrey to get him out.

Next to come was Valentine's Day. It's actually my least favorite holiday so I'm happy when it's over. Audrey had a nice party at school and came home with a big bag of candy. After that it's been quiet except for our weather. We had a couple good snowfalls in February one resulting in a snowday for Audrey. I think the other should have been a snowday too.

Audrey has been doing well in Daisies and her Cookie Sales. They just finished their last sales in a grocery store near us and will soon learn of the final count. Besides cookies their is another event that Girl Scouts across America participate in-SWAPS ( Special Whatchamacalits Affectionately Placed Somewhere). For this event we are to make 100 items that can be pinned. For all of those that are crafty ladies this would be a dream. I consider myself "somewhat crafty" and therefore struggled with something cute, creative and cheaply made (yes, cheaply made is the main idea here). I decided to do a FIMO clay daisy with a spakle glue center and a pin on the back. The time involved in this was grossly underestimated but I only have 30 more to go. I have until the 27th.

We have some upcoming events this March

Yearly check-ups

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Baby Shower

A Concert!!!!!

Girl Scout Swaps

A very special birthday!!

One Year Anniversery of my Blog!!

Some of you FB friends have heard about my sad computer. The motherboard went and it is out for repairs for 3 weeks. So there will be no pictures just some quick thoughts put down. I'm 2 weeks behind on all my other blogs. I've missed so much stuff. I also can't wait for winter to be over. I'm feeling the winter blues. I miss the sun, I need sun. I want to open my house and have the fresh breeze come through. I want to fire-up the grill and throw some chicken on. I miss going fo walks and the kids playing outside. Nate is showing signs of cabin fever. Soon, soon there will be the first signs of life again. Come on birds, come on flowers, let me know that there is hope.
Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-51986549744334670402010-01-30T13:46:00.001-05:002010-01-30T13:46:45.887-05:00The Last Birthday of the Month!
Yes, January is almost over and the celebrations of the birthdays come to an end. Audrey was the last to celebrate her 6th birthday! I’m worn out!! Thanksgiving, Christmas and 3 birthdays later. Really I have one more week to put in since Audrey with have a party at one of the local bounce houses. I guess I can put my feet up. Of course I did plan the party on Super Bowl Sunday, whoops! But it’s early enough and shouldn’t be a problem. For her actually birthday we celebrated at grandma and grandpa’s house. My father-in-law made her cake just the way she asked for it. Chocolate cupcakes with pink frosting, sprinkles and cherries on top. Too cute!! He added some butterflies and it was all set to go. She opened a few gifts since her party is our gift to her (apparently they cost A LOT!) but every little girl needs one. Enjoy the pictures!

Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-68635606157380192552010-01-17T11:58:00.001-05:002010-01-17T11:58:26.613-05:00I got a talent!
As most of us know, it is important for our children to be independent and self-sufficient in our world (the average height world). I have encouraged Nathan to learn how to figure things out on his own ( or have shown alternative methods of obtaining what he wants). I am proud of him and what he has accomplished. To me everything he does is special and amazing. I feel I have retrained my brain into thinking that he does things that average sized children couldn’t but I think that as parents we tend to think our children are geniuses. Nate has figured out how to get himself into his highchair and buckle himself in. He’s actually been buckling himself in since he was 1 but has enough strength now to climb in. Also, mom had to assist for video sake but he does this all day long with no help. Enjoy the video!

<img src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_JUGuYZXJB6k/S1NBsNxu2QI/AAAAAAAAAl0/UMcRyjUcvgg/video687986de7ac8%5B3%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('d96aab1b-20c9-4502-ab1d-d160a964e15e'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

Since Nate has reached 2 years of age his vocabulary has began to increase. I don’t know if he is where he needs to be till I talk with the doctor but I think that he is doing great. Since Nate suffered with numerous ear infections for a year, the fluid trapped in his ear my have led to slower vocabulary development. I know that I can understand him quite well but I don’t think that others will have as easy a job. I would love to hear what you think about this and if I should think about speech therapy. Nate’s vocab consist of these words: Mom, Daddy, Au-gee (Audrey), woof, meow, ball, ba-oon (balloon) bye-bye, baby, hi, up, pease (please), grandma, papa, ow, wow, bink, dree (drink). I included a video of him talking, he was distracted and of course didn’t want to perform but it gives an idea. These are the words that he says: Balloon, baby, ball, woof woof, meow, mom, Audrey, bye-bye and daddy.

<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9b15jcWt9yIQ56DUnd7Vs6RkXhAjI_UcNXUhio3ME8QnxBGtOTZKX_ICG_3L9cqBU6fhJ3R1KQa9IsJLB4LhdgPvmpcam1FioSuQvuVe_Pa7vVLrXceiMMDPSrbs4Sfo8hQZYXuzknkVb/?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('b57f6a1d-0659-43b2-a449-5ee9ce9dcc45'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "

";" alt="">

Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-29693636394395238292010-01-07T10:31:00.001-05:002010-01-07T10:31:38.440-05:00Let’s Celebrate Birthday #2!
It’s January 4th and it’s time to celebrate birthday #2 for Nate! It turned out to be a wonderful day and Nate was in a good mood. Actually, everyone was in a good mood. Audrey had her first day back to school. She asked me to pick her up early from school because she didn’t want to miss Nate’s birthday party. How cute! But the festivities weren’t planned till 4:30 so everyone could get together. Usually we have a big family gathering at our house but as family moved away and great-grandparents get older it has become a smaller gathering. We decided on a smaller celebration with Matt’s parents at their house.

Now Nate knew it was his day. Funny how they get that so early. Anytime you said “birthday boy” or sang “Happy Birthday,” he would smile and giggle. I feel so blessed to have him in my life (like I do both my kids) and that he is healthy with minimal complications. So this birthday felt so much more special to me than his first. Only because we didn’t have to under go all that testing and I’ve gotten comfortable with the things that can come with dwarfism. I contribute this to our wonderful blogging moms and dads out there.

At grandpa and grandma’s house we had Taco Bell for dinner. You may laugh at that but Nate L-O-V-E-S TB burritos. So you get your choice of birthday dinner! Grandpa made 2 wonderful cakes. Why I didn’t take pictures, I don’t know? But one was a teddy bear (3D-like) and the second was a strawberry cake. Unfortunately all the excitement made Nate toss his cookies, so he got a birthday bubble bath before he opened presents. It was just 10 days ago that we celebrated Christmas with a ton of presents so what else could a boy need… a car! While everything he got was a big hit minus the clothes, I say his new red coupe was his favorite. He drives it everyday! Happy 2nd Birthday Nate!!!

My new Car! Dad, grandpa and me!

Say Cheese! Here’s the Bear Cake!

Nate in his house again! It was a small gathering of my husband and kids with my aunt and grandma. We celebrated at my aunt’s house which is always beautifully decorated for the holiday. Since the kids are so anxious to open presents we did so before Christmas dinner. They received a bag full of goodies, one being a Hersey Kisses cane which was the perfect size for Nate. He enjoyed walking around the house using it as a cane. The kids got a lot of wonderful stuff and Nathan is still afraid of his remote control skidster. It will be awhile till he can brave that.

View Full Album

Ho Ho Holiday #2

The next celebration was Christmas Day at our house. I really thought that we would make it to 7 am before the kids would be up. I was wrong. I was gently nudged and whispered to in my ear at 4am by Audrey. I mumbled back to get back to bed. Soon after I heard her singing in her bed in which I had to tell her to go back to sleep. 5 am rolls around and I hear in my ear, “mom, I know what Santa brought me!” Go back to sleep Audrey!! At 5:30 I finally gave in and we gathered to open presents. Audrey was ready to tear into everything, forgetting that there were presents for her brother. I got her to slow down and read the gift tags. Nate wasn’t to sure what he was suppose to be doing. He insisted on taking off his PJ’s. I had him in a cute footed sleeper, which he hates because his feet are covered. You’ll notice his homage to the 70’s with the sleeper half unzipped in some pictures. But he finally understood that ripping paper off to see what’s inside can be fun. The kids were happy with all that they got and really enjoyed there gifts. Nate got two more gifts that took some warming up to; his dump truck and his talking Buzz Light-year! We do gifts for our animals too! Bentley got a gigantic bone which was funny to see him carry around. Kids got to play with all their toys until we left for Holiday #3.

View Full Album

Ho Ho Holiday #3

By 3:30 we were off to my in-laws. More gifts and a wonderful meal awaited. My father-in-law is a wonderful cook and made the best spread this year. Beef roast with all the fixings and cheesecake for dessert. But before all that the kids had to open their gifts. Now you think that it is the kids who are impatient. No, no grandma and grandpa can’t wait! This is their favorite time of year. My father-in-law works for 4 weeks decorating. He puts up 3 Christmas trees. The first being a 16 ft tree in the living room. Decorated with at least 10,000 lights and thousands of glass and handmade ornaments (some which he made). The second tree is a 12 ft three in the sunroom which has a Victorian theme. Pearls, crystals, candles and paper ornaments decorate that tree. Thirdly is a small tree in their bedroom decorated with birds and snow tipped as if it just came in from the outside. He makes all the mantle pieces and the decorations for the stairway. It is amazing and beautiful. So the kids made out pretty well for Christmas. Audrey got a TV for her bedroom. We got it all hooked up and now I can’t keep Nate off her bed. They both enjoy watching it. Nate got a playhouse for outside and a rollercoaster for him to ride. Both brought big smiles and that’s all he wanted to do. He didn’t want to sit at the dinner table and eat. So, frustrating when you just want to relax and enjoy the night. As mentioned early, the decoration don’t allow me to let a 2 year old run around unsupervised. It was a wonderful Christmas and look forward to celebrating 3 birthdays in January. Nate’s is the 4th, Matt’s the 10th and Audrey’s the 28th. I have been so blessed to have found my best friend and soul-mate for life. Although it’s been 8 years of marriage. Matt and I have been together for 11 years. I love you so much Matt! We have had a wonderful life and 2 beautiful children. Thank-you for all our precious memories.

Matt and I met by chance. The funny thing was, how many mutual friends we had, yet we never met before that night. Some girlfriends and I had met up with these boys (one being Matt) and were hanging out having a good time. My friends chose to drink. I chose not to. My friend had been the one to drive us and refused to leave. I argued with her about getting back home (it was late) but she didn’t want to come. She offered to drive me home but she wanted to come back. I knew better then to let her behind the wheel. We argue about this for half an hour before Matt offered to drive me home. My knight in shining armor! The next day we ran into each other at a friends Halloween party and enjoyed talking with each other, so much so that I broke my curfew (only 19 living with mom and dad). I thought I had made a good friend and never knew what this relationship was going to blossom into. I knew after a week he was something special. After 3 months we had enough courage to say the “L” word (love you) and at 6 months we were talking about getting married. I made him wait an official year before he popped the question. Old fashioned parents wouldn’t question it after a year long courtship. We were engaged for 2 years as I was finishing school and on December 28, 2001 Matt and I wed.

Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-42640899739412135882009-12-10T18:51:00.002-05:002009-12-31T14:47:49.958-05:00The News that Rocked My World
It was the second week in December. I wished I remembered exactly what day I was told that Nathan was going to be different, but I don’t. I enjoyed this pregnancy, hardly gaining any weight (unlike the 40 lbs with Audrey). I was all geared up for the holidays and the one month arrival of our baby boy. I went for the routine check-up, all looked good. The doctor thought we should get a weight on the baby so I stepped into another room for the ultrasound. At this point I was thinking that the baby must be a good size. Audrey was 8 lbs. 10 oz. leading me to believe a 9lb. baby was coming.

I’m laying down with the squishy jelly on my belly, the wand moving up and down, the tech clicking buttons. God, when is she going to be done I thought. Audrey was with me and getting antsy. She wipes off my belly and said she’ll be right back. She leaves, comes back to take me to an examine room. I’m thinking I’m going to hear about how big Nate is. The doctor comes in, she sits on a stool by the window. Audrey’s on the chair by the sink, I’m up on the examine table. I think now about how much I remember and how much I don’t. The doctor starts by commenting on Nate’s long bones measuring short. “Short?”, I begin to wonder what’s going on. She comments on what the normal value is and that Nate’s is this range and that’s this many weeks. He’s behind. My body goes numb. I think, “hold yourself together, show her no fear.” Then I think about Audrey, “don’t let her know that something’s wrong. A 3 year old won’t understand. Anyway, we don’t know for sure. I need to have a specialist ultrasound to verify and confirm. It’s scheduled one week later.

One week I had to sit with this news. Checking my emotions. I don’t want everyone to know how scared I am for him (I know nothing about dwarfism-NOTHING). I cry only to my mother, isn’t that what a daughter should do? I immediately start my internet research. It’s frustrating to hear about all the complications and thinking that your child is going to have a hell of a ride… if he survives. One should never research on the internet or at least know of a reputable website. A week passes and Matt and I head to the second ultrasound

This place was such a doctors office in a hospital. It was cold and uninviting. This was where we are going to get the confirming news.?The ultrasound room was big and dark, too big. Another tech, another ultrasound, now waiting for the doctor. (Not a racial slam) An Indian doctor comes in the room and begins talking, great an accent. It always sounds worse with an accent. Not only do I have to understand what she’s saying but I have to “understand what she’s saying.” The gist: his long bones are short, his head is large…looks like a 9 lb baby…he will have achondroplasia dwarfism…we see this in fathers who are 35 and older. Okay, since my husband and I are both 28 does that mean your wrong? Should have asked that question. To this day, that pisses me off, what relevance does our age have to do with this. I did a non-stress test and then it was time to go. I really just wanted to get the hell out of there. I want to feel my emotions and not swallow them back down.

By now it’s night. Dark, cold and rainy. Once again, we had Audrey with us. Time to go get some dinner, head home and call it a night. Matt and I still needed to talk, one of the stresses in the marriage. What was his feelings on the whole situation. I feared that he would blame me. Nate is his only son. Maybe I did something wrong. He really surprised me and was quite a strength through the whole 3 weeks. Yes, after the first mention that Nate was to have dwarfism, I had to wait for 2 holidays to pass. To date, the worst Christmas ever. I just wanted to know that he was okay. The holidays are the worst time for needing to see a doctor. After many frustrating conversations and arguments later, Nathan was scheduled as a C-section on Jan. 4th. I couldn’t wait to see my little guy. That morning, they told me I could deliver him naturally. No way, I’m here for a C-section and I want my baby now. Nathan was born at 9:03 a.m. weighing 7lbs 6oz. Not the 9 lbs they said. He was beautiful, and healthy and doing just fine. I saw him for a little while before he was taken to the NICU. There they did a full work-up (x-rays) and 5 hours later I got to see him. I took one look and knew he had dwarfism. I saw those characteristics but he stole my heart and I didn’t care about how he would look. I never really did, I just wanted him to be healthy and happy. And that’s where we are today!

Laura Wolfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08367888926495201275noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2023330555037393090.post-10636609672010043362009-12-05T16:33:00.002-05:002009-12-31T14:47:58.838-05:00Low-Key Thanksgiving
We have kept ourselves busy from Halloween to Thanksgiving. Mostly the normal things like running to the store and taking Audrey to school but also with other things I rather not have to deal with. Yes, it’s that time of year. Where sickness enters your home and doesn’t want to leave. It all started with Nathan one night spiking a fever. It went away the next day but two days after that I had it. It felt like the flu without all the nasty trips to the bathroom. Then soon past but not before I could tell that Audrey was fighting something off. Before I knew it she was barking like a seal, croup. How far away can you stay when your cooped up in the house. Not far enough because she passed it to her brother. Nate’s fever got up to 103.8F and lasted almost 12 hours. If it hadn’t broken in the morning I would be in the ER with him. The worst of it was that the kids were sick for Thanksgiving. Nate was finally at the age to enjoy a real turkey meal but he didn’t want to eat. I had Audrey home for a 1 1/2 weeks between the vacation days and sick days and I needed a break. Couldn’t wait for school on Monday but Sunday night mom just wasn’t feeling right. I had a fever of 101F and woke up the next morning tired. I took Audrey to school. Later that day I started a headache and soon a cough followed. That cough lasted 4 days non-stop. Finally went to the doctor since I was sure I had an ear infection now. Little did I know that my coughing was due to bronchitis and the doc confirmed an ear infection. Today the kids are better and I’m feeling good but can’t hear since both my ears are plugged up.

Audrey did get her letter from Santa and she was really excited. I don’t think that she wanted to show me how excited she was. She’s at a funny point where she doesn’t want to express her full emotions but I knew it made her happy. I mean Audrey has been counting down. It started at about 20 days prior. Everyday, “Mom is it Halloween yet?” After the 5th time I think I told her she wouldn’t go if she asked me again. That squashed it for awhile. Then the day of Halloween at 8am I got the question again, “Mom, is it time to get my costume on and go trick or treating?” Torture, I hate being asked the same question over and over again. I only know that when Christmas nears closer (it’s almost here) that I will get the never ending questions. Just yesterday she sat down to prepare her letter to Santa. “Mom, how do you spell…..?” Really?

I am excited for her to get her letter from Santa. I decided that this year only, I was going to pay the money and have a professional looking letter sent to Audrey from Santa. It gets mailed out after Thanksgiving. I’m sure she will pee her pants with excitement. I really need to get off the Christmas subject.

Halloween was fun this year! We always have dinner over at my in-laws. Audrey walks to their neighbors and up and down their street. Then we pack up and head back to our place. Matt is already there handing out candy. I thought for sure that Audrey would make it around our whole sub. We have roughly 70 houses (so my husband says). About half way through she was half asleep. I guess all that anticipation wiped her out. But they both made out with candy. Matt’s sister substituted for Nathan. I had him so bundled up because it was so cold.

I was however bummed. I will learn to definitely take pictures right away. Wednesday, we carved our pumpkins. I was going to take pictures on Halloween but discovered that morning that someone stole one of our Jack-o-lanterns. I can only hope that someone was that hard up that they needed it to put a smile on their kids face. It’s the only thing that can make me overlook the distraught that was on Audrey’s face when she realized that it was gone. At least they didn’t take the one that she carved.

View Full Album

Matt and Nate Nate petting the kitty!

Audrey as a witch (hat is purple on chair). The most from the weekend. I need to get some sleep and take care of myself. Overall, the kids had a great time and that makes me feel good.

Saturday, Audrey had her fall festival for school. It took place at a corn maze. There was face painting, pumpkin painting, bounce house, petting farm, mini haunted house, hay bale pyramid, hay bale maze and the big corn maze. So after the kids did the small stuff we entered the corn maze. They took off like bats out of hell. I’m screaming for them to get back to me (Audrey took her friend). Once I had them by me we walked through the maze. They did give me a map but I didn’t think anything of it at the time. I was naive to think we couldn’t get lost. We did. We made it up to the word LIONS and into the football players shoulder or hand. That’s how lost I was. So I whipped out the map, I can read maps. Apparently, it’s not in between the lines you follow but the actual lines themselves. Oops! We only walked in a circle 4 times before I realized this. Fed up and the kids asking over and over again when we are getting out of this, I decided to back track. Finally, came across some stroller wheel marks. What relief!! You won’t find me in a corn maze or a corn field ever again. BTW, didn’t think through the whole pushing a stroller through dirt and mud (aka “a field”). Don’t recommend it but in the end it was a saving grace to get us out.

Sunday, Audrey had a birthday party at the bounce house. My original plan was to stay but I felt bad that Nate couldn’t bounce. He wanted to so bad. They had nothing there to entertain toddlers. At 1pm I decided to depart and take Nate over to McDonald’s for lunch. He enjoyed his nugget happy meal. By the time we got back the kids had finished eating and were about to open presents. Nate enjoyed that and I got to talk to one of the moms. I was happy that all the running around was done. Enjoy the pictures below

View Full Album

I finally got around to cleaning up the basement from all that collects down there.
